Overview of the ART On-Site Care Program
Active Release Techniques soft tissue treatment is a patented system for effectively treating strains, sprains and overuse conditions. ART is a non-invasive hands-on therapy, provided by licensed medical providers who have completed post-graduate certifications through Active Release Techniques. LLC.
ART providers utilize highly developed tactile skills and knowledge of physiological symptom patterns to locate scar tissue adhesions on and in between muscles and nerves. A precise hand or thumb contact is applied to the correct area (tension to the tissue) and the recipient is directed to move the effected region of the body through a specific range of motion (muscle is shortened then lengthened). This causes the muscles to slide under the ART providers contact. This technique has proven to rapidly break up scar tissue and yield recovery of many types of soft tissue pain conditions found in the work place and in sports. There are currently 3500 full body certified providers of ART treatment in the world.
The developer of ART is Dr. Michael Leahy of Colorado Springs, CO. Dr. Leahy is the team soft tissue specialist for the Denver Broncos, a PGA treating professional, and heads up the Ironman Triathalon soft tissue treatment team. For the past 15 years Dr Leahy and his team of ART instructors have been training other medical professionals in ART treatment through ART’s post-graduate certification programs.
Approximately five years ago ART developed a preventative first aid and wellness initiative for proactive companies who desire to reduce both expenses and OSHA recordable injury rates in the area of soft tissue MSD’s.
ART care is considered first aid.OSHA VPP auditors called this program a Best Management Practice after auditing the Sanmina-SCI corporation and OSHA’s national office has recognized ART as a type of first aid. When working on-site at a corporation, from a reactive standpoint, ART is delivered at the first aid level, which helps companies reduce recordable injury rates. An average case will take 3 to 6 treatments to greatly improve and/or resolve .
Wellness component: Most
companies utilize the ART program as a wellness component by offering ART
sessions to employees who do not have symptoms yet, but have physically
demanding and or repetitive tasks. This way the ART provider can assess and
work on muscle groups that are common complaints of individuals with specific
jobs.
Prevention is a large part of the ART program. The goal is to prevent entirely and/or to catch cases at their earliest stages and get employees well, right away, without missing work, but also to prevent the pain from reoccurring.ART providers teach employees very specific stretches to be done throughout the day during moments of downtime.
