WHAT TO EXPECT FROM OUR TREATMENT
When an athlete comes to Active Health & Wellness Center soft tissue techniques including Active Release Techniques (ART) may be used to treat the soft tissue dysfunction and joint manipulation is employed to normalize joint mechanics. Kinesio Taping may be used to assist muscles through their range of motion or to correct bio-mechanics.  We customize our approach based on the specific needs of each individual and treat accordingly.

People are looking for magic machines. People have forgotten the magic of their hands. An excellent practitioner can achieve better results with his hands than with ultrasound and electric stimulation units. We use other tools as an extension of our hands.

The evaluation addresses everything in a functional manner. The muscles that are being used and the activity the person is performing are both taken into account.
For example, if a golfer has injured his or her shoulder muscles, the therapy takes into account all the supporting structures in the golf swing, not solely the injured muscles.

Typically, the golf swing only strengthens certain muscles of the body, leading to injuries by causing increased stress against the weaker muscles. This imbalance must be corrected to facilitate recovery and prevent further injury.

If a golfer loses range of motion and flexibility at their hips due to restricted or tight muscles, they will often compensate by overusing their arms to complete the swing.  This increase in motion at the shoulder can eventually lead to pain and shoulder injury.  Until the decreased hip movement is addressed the patient will continually re-injure their shoulder.  This is why you can’t just look at the site of pain.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO PERFORM EXERCISES AFTER TREATMENT?
The therapy also makes use of exercises to correct muscle imbalances which can lead to injures in the future.  We call this “functional rehabilitation.”  It is important that the body is exercised in a functional manner in order to build appropriate muscles as well as joint strength and flexibility. This allows the athlete to perform optimally and prevent re-injury.

WHY IS AHW DIFFERENT?
AHW is different uses a unique combination of powerful therapies that include:

• Soft tissue techniques-Active Release Technique (ART) is used to break down scar tissue and adhesions
• Joint manipulation techniques to normalize joint mechanics.
• Functional rehabilitation to restore optimal function and prevent re-injury
• Nutrition interventions to assist the healing and repair process
